Is there a way of finding out from hidden menu when the last DPF auto regen was 'done' or kicked in or tried to kick in ?

Is it safe to assume that if temp does not get beyond 75 c that it will never kick in (even if you do a 100 mile motorway trip around 70 mph...which I think just touches below 2000 revs.)

nope, you've gotta get a cable and laptop and read the ecu to check when it last attempted a regen. with the software you can also force it to do a regen when you next go for a drive.

Yep, you need at least 75C for a regen to happen, otherwise it won't kick in. Check what the operating temperature of your e60 is at the moment, so you can probably guess whether it has tried to regen or not.

Thanks...I thought as much.

I am new to this car (2004 auto with 70k and full stealer history) The car has been giving very low mpg than I expected ...maybe thats why previous owner got rid...and it prompted me to hunt the internet for a answer. The temperature was the first thing wrong and easiest to tackle.

I guess its not had a regen for a while going by the temperature. I did take it on motorway and temp does not get near 75 but car does feel better afterwards but mpg still not good. 30 around town and 38 on motorway at 65 mph and light load...just me in the car.

The sooner the I get main thermostat changed the better...egr one done already...made a little differance but not enough.
