I've order the new 525D and I hope I'll get it mid July. Now I'm wondering if I choose the right engine. The question is: how does it permorm when comparing with the 530D. Those of you who driving a similar car have any complaints about performance?

I used to drive a 330Cic and I was also worried about changing to the 525d (without test-driving it). So far I must say that the performance of the 525d isn't bad at all. Most of the time it is a lot quicker than other cars and so far I've only missed the big engine only once when someone with a VW Golf tried to race me, to be perfectly honest I was still able to beat him but I had to push really hard and I know that with my previous car the guy with the VW Golf wouldn't have known what happened (which puts a smile on my face everytime it happened) but this is no longer the case with the 525d. Don't get me wrong, performance is great but I do miss the big engine to race people (when they are looking to race me). I know for sure that when I will order my next car that it definitely has to be something like the 535d, hopefully in a couple of years so that I will be old enough to get a reasonable insurance rate!

There is something different between the 525d and the 530d engines as you may calculate.
In Portugal the price diference between the two models it's huge. The taxes you have to pay are enormous.
I choosed the 530d but my previous BMW was the 525d, excellent car but of course i can tell that they are quit different.

Tuga - Same thing here, taxes are a lot higher and especially insurance will be something like 200 EUR extra/month!!! You said that you felt the difference between your previous 525d and your new 530d, well, just remember that your 525d was from a previous generation. If you look at the new 525d, it has the performance of the old 530d so if you compare the new 530d to the new 525d there is still some difference but it is less than what you experienced.

I drove the new 530D and 525D and I must say that there isn't much difference between the two. The 530d still has that extra 'punch' compared to the 525D but the figures speak for themselves. Acceleration from 0-100kmh (0-60mph) only takes 1sec longer with the 525D.
It's a superb engine! That's why I ordered it....
Maybe I'll but a chip in it to match the performance of the 530D

I'm waiting also for the engine upgrade.
I will install the ACS chip as soon as it will be available for the 530d EURO IV.
I will get something as 252 PS and 560 Nm of torque, near the performance of the new 535d arriving in October.

Hi Tuga,

You will notice the difference and never want to go back, believe me. I have the kit as you know.

How do the prices of the 525d and 530d compare with the non-diesel versions, 525 and 530?
