i haven't driven one yet but a buddy of mine has and he thinks it is "okay " on the streets and it sucks on the freeway....for the fellow 525i owners what do you think about that statement?
2 years and I love it and I just added a Super Electronics Acelerator Sprint Booster!!
and wow itis very fast now for a 525i and it outruns alot of some level of cars.
drive safe!!!

I have an M5 and I am completely satisfied, I do not want more. That being said, I think it depends on what kind of driving you do. If it is mostly city driving and you aren't going over 60, the 525 is fine, but I think if you do a lot of driving on the highway and are a more aggresive driver, you may find the power lacking.
On the other hand I do feel the 525 is one of the best deals going, especially in Canada with low interest rates and good deals, etc. Plus you probably would save money by not getting so many speeding tickets.

525 is a great compromise in the real world.

Well, I traded in my E60 530i (the 230ps model) for my Alpina B5, so I think you know my answer...
As everyone has noted, though, it depends on how you drive and what routes. If you're in town, face lots of speed traps or generally drive like a granny, the 525i is just fine, though the 520d might also be adequate, where available.

If you have alot of money to spare then go for 550. Otherwise a 525 should be fairly adequate (DS mode).
But don't waste your money on a 530. I really could not appreciate any significant difference in hp and torque from the 525. MHO.

525 is more than adequate on Uk roads. Reasonable performance & economy. M5 has its place & is a lovely car, but my 525 would beat it on a race from my house to any UK city more than 300 miles away ( keeping somewhere close to speed limits , 75-80 on motorway ) as the M5 would need to stop a few times for fuel!!.

I know some E39 525 owners that love their cars. I had a chance to get behind the wheel and I enjoyed driving the 525 as well. The E60 can defiantly handle more horsepower, if you decide that is what is best for you.
OK, I'll put in my .02
I have owned my 530 for one month and test drove 525 vs. 530 on two seperate dealer visits before my purchase. I bought the 530 because of the stronger acceleration during freeway passing and while driving on hilly terrain. The E60, regardless of engine size, is a glorious machine and a work of art and balance, I just wanted a little more punch, and I'm glad I bought it. There is so much more than just HP that should be appreciated about this car. Everytime I push the start button I just marvel at the balance, cornering ability, smooth shifting of the steptronic and wealth of technology; I guess that's what makes it a BMW. Please drive both, evaluate and make up your own mind, you really can't go wrong with any engine size on the E60. I also drove Lexus GS, MB 320, both fine cars, but for my money not close to the same experience of the E60.

I have it installed in my 525i and it gose like a 535i. Itis fast at stop to start until it get to 4000rpm, then itis the 525i normal engine power after. when you are going at normal speed and just put the foot down a little you will feel the power from the booster. Uphill is the best, outrun a lot of cars same size ot smaller with tuneups. there is a downside to this and that is the mpg. it will drop a bit but I dont care about that it fun!!!
This device will not void the warrentee because it will not boost the hp or the ECU, it just a Electronics Acelerator for the foot pedel not for the engine and you can always take it out any time you what.[attachment=30589:attachment]

As I understand it, all the "sprint booster" does is tell the engine that you have your foot down more than you actually do. Consequently, when you already have your foot to the floor, it makes no difference - you really think you can "turn it up to 11"???

when you put the gear to +- mode the car is very fast not like before.
