I personally find it a little underpowered, and consider the manual a must if you get this model. On the other hand, others have said the 525i is perfectly fine for them. It all comes down to what you expect from the car in terms of acceleration and power. Make sure to drive one for a while before you order!

Don't be put off by the tide of people saying you have got to have a 545 or that anything is underpowered, which is all you read on Roadfly. The engine in the 525 is one of the smoothest motors that BMW produce, and utterly refined. If you intend to use the performance then the manual will certainly help, but don't ever think this car is slow, it is still a comparitively quick car, and it still has all the other qualities the new 5 is endowed with.

I couldn't agree more. The E60 board on Roadfly has been hijacked by a bunch of pathetic teenagers (or twenty somethings who act like teenagers). The 525 is hardly a slow car. You really have to ask yourself what you are buying the car for - do you intend to sit at traffic lights waiting for someone to come along in their heavily modified smaller car and try to race them or do you want the engineering integrity of a BMW and the ability to cruise effortlessly at speeds well in excess of any legal limits that are in force?
It is highly amusing to see the small group of roadfly adolescents arguing over the fact that nothing under a 545 will do - what nonsense. They evidently have more money than sense or are kids just winding everyone else up. Don't be influenced by their bs.

im getting my 525 on monday....which i test drove before hand. It is fine for what i need and i think alot of people in the UK would agree too. Traffic, Laws and restrictions and important of all the licence you hold all factored in to this.
The engine is great, acceleration even better....and anyway if i wanted that much power/speed i would have gone for a true sports car...rather than a executive saloon car in a class of its own.

Yes, I rather prefere the 525i to 530i because of its smooth, siky, musically sound (I'm a sound engineer.) and because of the comfort if you are a passenger. I tested a whole weekend both models. Of cource 530i has a power which makes the car very light. But I enjoy the exclusive "heaviness feels" of the 525i without beeing really heavy and it's still very sporty and agil.
