According to the Swedish BMW the 2006 525 has a 2.5 L engine and the 2006 530 a 3.0 L engine. Am I wrong? You get 50 Nm more and 40 hp more.
when the new N52 engine came on the market!
Of what I know, this engine is not available anywhere else
It has 215 hp and 250 Nm as the European 525i.
See more here.
That is about the same feature as with the European 523i vs. 525i.
They are both 2.5 litre engines.

Because you may not really get extra 40HP by paying almost $4000 extra for 530.
If it were 2005, I would be willing to pay extra for a 3.0L engine (530) over 2.5L engine (525).

Why do you say you are not getting a "real" 40hp? You do not feel the extra $4000 is worth it for the 530? I have heard that same comment from quite a few people.

My Ride: 2006 530xi. Deep green with beige interior. 6 speed manual. Premium package.
Even tough I got the 530 - I agree that the 40hp seems like a lot
You could do it with increased intake - more gas in = more hp
but then why not a significant change is gas mileage between the 2 and such a difference in the printed 0-60 times?
They are both great cars

Thanks for the concern for my safety! I am very sorry to hear about your friend Miss525i....
I was about 30 yards out of my driveway when the deer just slammed into the side of the car...I didn't hit it...it hit me! I am so glad I was not running 60mph somewhere, it could have been much worse.
As for the engine, I looked at the specs at BMW and line for line the 525 and 530 are identical in every respect with the exception of the intake manifold as far as I can see. I am super pleased with my 525i, I just sometimes really want for the electric feeling power delivery of the 545...but I just could not justify the extra money for simply more punch. I will admit though, I had a guy in an otherwise identical car...except he had the 545, get into a little chase on the interstate the other day and when he got on the gas....well....that was the last that I saw of him! He made short work of my 525!

I have the 2005 525i and am perfectly contended with the 184 ponies I have. I put this bad boy in DS mode , and its good enough for me. Mind you now, I certainly would never turn down the extra ponies but again, it works for me.

I was just looking at the specs on the 525 compared to the 530 (2006) Is the only difference the variable intake manifold? If so, is this what is responsible for the additional 40hp? Also could that intake manifold be retrofitted on the 525 motor?
....by the way...I hit a deer with my new 2006 525i Christmas Day.....$1800 of damage to the drivers quarter panel. Bummer!
