It's a fair point - every time I floor the 530d I run out of road

hi,

i would take the 525d, the engine runs smoother.
afaik the 520d engine is a 4 cylinder and fits better to the 3series imho.

the 530d is the best choice from a power and also financial point of view.

personally i chose the 535d limo and put some new software on it, 334hp/600nm.

any questions left..?

How can 530d make more sense from a financial point of view?

Higher initial cost :thumbsdown: Higher fuel consumption Higher company car tax in UK

Undoubtedly the 530d is a great performer, but the original post was between the 525d and 520d. It really is hard to make an arguament for the 525d in its current form

It is true that the 4 cyl has more of an edge, but with the superior sound insulation of the e60 over the 3, it only gives the driver a pleasant, characterful reminder that an engine exists under the bonnet.

I would also say.... buy a manual 520d and enjoy

From 'What Car'

530d = 70 p per mile
525d = 63 p per mile
520d = 54 p per mile

520d is clearly the budget option.

530i = 73 p per mile
525i = 64 p per mile

Obviously not much between petrol and diesel financially, but diesel is stronger for re-sale.

Eu IV Diesels did have the edge for company car tax, but since the 3% diesel surcharge has been re-imposed there is not much in it now.

I have the 520d m sport and I love it. Speed isn't a big thing for me but toys and comfort are. It's a very nice car! :-)

The 520d is a VERY nice car!

Not everyone needs a racer!

But the one thing that makes BMW unic is the six-in-line engine, gas or diesel!

For EuIV registered before 31.12.05, the 3% sweetener is still in place

Overhere we have a very stupid diesel tax, which is the reason why I don't ride a 530dA.

This would mean a extra tax of 600 ? / per year.

The 520d is a better choice if its a company car. But if buying for personal use the 6cyl engines are much better.
