Unhappy 520d - power problem - huge white smoke - car revving max on it's own

Hi,

2 days ago I had a problem with power on 4th gear, during acceleration I've lost power, I reduced to 3rd gear, and problem disappeared.

Yesterday on motorway I start accelerating and something weird start happening, after 4th gear car start smoking, after few seconds start revving on max on it's own, I just cut off engine by shifting 6th gear as car didn't react on key to turn it off, I took motorway exit (motorway starts and exist is around 1m so I had luck) I fire up engine, took left on roundabout and it's start happening again, but this time with HUGE amount of white/grey smoke (HUGE, whole road were in that smoke and cars had to stop after/before me as there was no visibility at all for few meters) and again start revving on max revs. Again I cut it off by shifting into higher gear as car didn't react on power button.

Did any one had similar problem in past ? Is it turbo on 99% or it could be something smaller ? In total car was revving for 5-10 seconds so I guess no harm done as I saw that to burn engine and whole oil you would need 2-3 minutes.

I didn't start car Yesterday, luckily for me it happened near my house (I park around 0.7 miles from house), Today car will be towed in couple hours to near garage and first diagnose based on problems is that it can be dead turbo...

Regeneration around £450...

Any advice ?

Hey, you are lucky you have a manual! for car to start using it's oil, turbo could be suspect most likely, if not and it had starved still it would die...
My Turbine shaft has little play and hope if/when it dies, it will do it some other way

Yet to see and hope for the best

Good luck

Car were towed to garage couple hours ago. They couldn't hook it up so BMW had to drive on it's own wheel onto towing truck. Well car started fine, no problems at all, no smoke no nothing, drove without problem on truck, then drove from truck and now is parked on garage parking. Mechanic checked that quickly and looks that it will be turbo as there is a lot of oil on exhaust... Lot's of it...

Engine oil level is still full so no harm to the engine

For any one who will have some losses of power on turbo, white/gray smoke, engine revving on it's own, just stall engine by higher gear (2-3 gears up), be careful with clutch .
