Sometimes pulling away in a 520d with a manual gearbox can be a bit crap.

If you are on a slight (uphill) incline at a T junction and you want to get away quickly (for a gap in the traffic for example) you often end up looking like a complete git as there is no acceleration immediately after you pull away.

I've taken to dipping the clutch just after I get going to let the revs build up, then quickly letting it out again. This certainly helps but what a palaver.

Would I be better off switching off the stability programme? Has anyone tried this?

I certainly will not be buying this combination of engine and gearbox again as pulling away from traffic lights is embarrassing. If you floor it in 1st gear, you get a lot of engine noise, 'till the limiter kicks in but you never really get going very quickly. If you don't time the change to 2nd absolutely perfectly, a Nissan Micra will leave you in it's dust...

Clutch Delay Valve

Search, and you shall find more information...

Anyway, if you re-map and delete the CDV, you will probably be extremely happy.

Ah, thanks for that. I'm actually driving a leased company car, so I'm reluctant to make any mods like that. I actually bought a device to plug in to the engine but I bottled it and it's still sitting in my boot (going half price should anyone fancy it...).

Thanks again

I have been thinking on similar lines. It is a heavy car afterall, and getting that weight off the line quickly is going to take a determined prod of the throttle. If I need to jump onto a busy roundabout from a standing start, I tend to wind the motor up to say 2-2,500 rpm. Once the turbo is spooled up the take off is much better, but people next to me must wonder who is driving the tractor next to them!

Like you mine is a lease car, so not sure about plugging boxes into it, just in case the motor or gear box goes pop (could be very bad news for me if it did!). As a thought, if something did happen to the motor / drivetrain, would the car have recorded that the engine had been chipped / altered - even if the box had been subsequently removed?

Try fitting a sprintbooster. Should get rid of any lag on the throttle. They have pretty good resale value too.
