Hi,

I have a 520d for 8 month with 13000km.

The passed few weeks when I step out of the car I smell something burned under the car and near the exhaust. Also car is sometimes shocking at 1700 rpm and 2900 rpm. The needle of the rpm gauge is also not going down fluently but you really see it moving with shocking steps of 2 mm.

Anyone have a similar problem?

Regards,

Krekski

PS I dont drive much highway.

It sounds like same thing as with the 530d, I think you'll find that its the carbon deposits being burnt off from the particle filter in the exhaust system. Makes the 530d suddenly sound like some big V8 engined monster!!!

Does the exhaust note change? I'm assuming you don't see your mentioned symtoms continuously?
I think on the 530d it's every few hundred miles it does this, then lasts for 15-20miles or so....although I've got used to it now, so don't notice it so much.

My 520d SE used to do the same, depending on the type of driving, every 200 - 500 miles, think its the particle filter cleaning as others have said.
