But, 525D Cost more to!
wow... I really didn't mean to make such a big thing about that subject!
Lets stick to topic, and talk about cars instead of the enviroment
And i love to drive a nice V8 engine to, so I really understand why so many americans does it
If I where living in the US, I would have been driven a 545iA to
I didn't write my previous post, to hurt anyone, but just to tell you that the 520d, could be a really nice car

520d sounds ok to me. I recently borrowed a 120d and that was well quick. The 520d will just be a bit less but still a fine motorcar and great contender for todays standards.
The 520d residuals will be interesting - I think the 6 cylinder engines will be more desirable and the slightly higher cost would be worth the investment...

Anyway i was just a bit amaized on that post. I wonder how our american bmw lovers would react if they would find out that some of us here in europe still drive 50 hp cars.?

Hi Malcom welcome!
What country do you live in?
I agree with browellm , Merv and others. The 520d will be fine- there is loads of good info on this board and will sure assist when it comes to specing the car and aftermarket stuff such as ipod support, tyre choices, servicing etc.

A good friend of mine test drove a 150HP 520d last week. He currently drives a 150HP 320d and was very impressed by the 520d thought it had only 150HP instead of 163HP. (thank to the Belgian tax !
). After the test he tried my 163HP 525d (not 177 HP, you know why
). He said that the 520d was more agressive and enjoyable on the first three gears than the 525d which clearly overwhelm the 520d in upper gears. Of course, a 4-cyl engines doesn't sound like a 6-cyl.
The 520d definitely seems to be enjoyable at least at "legal" speed and certainly not underpowered.

It is up to you:
1. Do you want performance or fuel savings?
2. Are you willing to ride a car that has been owned by someone else?

,man you think to buy a SH from Autobavaria?hard choice between 530d Sh and 520d new,i have a good friend who has a 520d older model but in excelent condition,he make a 8L/100km in city in normal driving mode(is a manual gearbox) and 0-100km/h in aprox 10 sec.The performance is good against similar models like 520i .The 530d is another story, mine make arround 12L/100 km in city(is auto gearbox) and aprox 7 sec 0-100km.You must know what is more important to you, fuel consumption or power and speed, some extra options (leather,Logic7,xenons) etc...On the ather hand if you buy a SH you must be very carefuly(who is selling maybe had problems with te car)
