5 Series deiesel E60 - question + 19" wheels
5 series E60 Deisel Auto.
Do they have to be run in?? do i have to keep gentle on accelerator for while, cant find anything in manual, its done 500 miles. Does the diesel engine improve with age/get quieter (not that its noisy) Does anyone have any experience with the 19" wheels NON RF being noisy and particularly hard.

I was told to keep mine below 3000rpm for the first 2000km. That's not the end of a world in a diesel, so keep to it if you can. At about 5000km it became noticably looser, but did not notice any major difference in the level of noise.
As for the 19" question, I transitioned from 18" RFT to 19" non-RFT and had a huge improvement in noise levels. The ride also improved, because the bumps were not as harsh. This was what I posted at the time: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?show...32266&hl=lissy

Cant really comment on the run in procedure but regarding the 19" wheels, Id first check your tyre pressures to make sure they're as they should. My car came from the main dealer and the pressures were all over the place.
As for being noisy or hard riding, the tyres should be should be run in by now so the ride quality should be pretty firm but not harsh. Certainly better than the 18" wheels with RFTs , but they're still 19" wheels with pretty thin tyre sidewalls at the end of the day so you're never going to give a magic carpet type ride.

19" non runflats are softer to ride on than 18" runflats.
I know from experience!

You guys all seem to have M sports, how do you find the firm ride, am I being a whimp? I am still considering changing the suspension to SE for a smoother ride - am I insane.
Why didn't you go for an SE in the first place?

The M Sport set-up with 19" non RFT's is very reasonable taking into account it is lowered and on 30 / 35 profile tyres. No way would I describe the ride as 'hard', although I suppose it's on the firmer side of comfortable. No way would I ever consider changing the suspension set-up either.
