I've had my 04 black on black 530 sport premium with xenon, run flats, active steering for one year now and here's an update. 32,000 miles and still loving it. Everytime I see an old 5 series (I had a 98 528) I still miss my old car, yet I love the new 5. I am always getting compliments from people. It is definitely better in every way, shape and form. I do not have navigation. It was not available when I got mine. (Shows you I have one of the very first 530's out there) Minor quirks here and there. Biggest complaint are my brakes which squeak terribly. Started squeaking at about 10K miles and have not stoppped. I've had it in service 4 times over the last year (at 2 different dealerships - Sterling Newport Beach and Bob Smith Calabassas) and neither dealership can solve the problem. I'm thinking about going to Midas! Other issues include broken cup holder (driver side) where Bob Smith BMW supoosedly fixed it and now a can of coke does not sit flat. Passenger air bag light goes on and off with passenger. Dealership states software issue again and again, yet software upgrades (2 so far) do not fix the problem. Door seals have been lubed twice in the last year to help with rattles. CD resets to song #1 about half the time after turning engine off. Most recently after my Inspection 1, my radio now has more preset stations and also allows RDS option for radio stations. My transmission was also acting funny after Inspection 1. When downshifting from 4th to 3rd, transmission would jerk a bit, but hasn't happened in the last few weeks? I have also replaced all 4 Dunlop run flats. Haven't had any problems with the run flats, I actually like them. Expensive though. Gives me peace of mind with all the driving i do. I've been up north to Monterey, Vegas a couple of times and depite the problems I've had, I still enjoy driving the new 5 much more than my old 5. I am actually thinking of getting the 05 530 or 545 in titanium silver with Nav and all the other options that weren't available a year ago.

Thanks for the update sam!

I'm sure I won't be getting up to that mileage any time soon so I'm glad I don't have to worry too much about any major problems. So far, the only problems I share with you are the one's related to software. I'm prepared to live with those for at least the next decade or so!!

Welcome to the forum...

Wouldn't you prefer one of these?

Are there any roads in the islands where you can really enjoy your 5?

Perhaps if you spent less time on this forum, then you might not have as much trouble racking up the miles.

There you go. Buy a couple cones and set them up in a straight line in your parking lot and then start to drive around this slalom course...
