I thought that was the idea of the TT setting?

Small, low inertia turbo "always" up and running for small volumes; when that runs out of puff, the large higher inertia turbo has enough power to push in the greater volumes of air required. I don't see how further to reduce lag - unless we use a supercharger and then a turbo, but then efficiency probably goes to pot.
The use of TT in the BMW isn't like that. Think of one low boost turbo per three cylinders.

i believe the TT in the 535d works the traditional way - 1 big turbo for high rpm and 1 small turbo for low rpm

the TT in the 335i is 2 small ones that spool at the same time from low rpms

The engine has alreday been certified. I have it now in my E90. They are just choosing to eliminate the choice.
Have BMW certified the non-turbo 3 litre engine with direct-injection for USA yet? If not, then that is the reason why BMW is not offering the 530i for 2007 facelift in USA. If it has been certified, then probably it's done for marketing reasons.
Btw, does the US market 335i/335Ci have direct-injection? I cannot find any info on bmwusa.com. The engine on the 328i is a detuned version of the 'old' N52, & I think BMWUSA discontinued the 530i & call it 528i for 2007, as it won't be using the 'new' N52 with direct-injection for some reason.
For Europe & ROW in 2007, the 3.0 N52 will have direct-injection together with a small power & torque increase. This engine is now available in the facelifted X3 3.0 as well as on the E9x.

It's an incredible engine. I just can't imagine why we here in the U.S. are being denied it in the sedans. I'll shut up about it, now. Sorry for the bitchin' and moanin'.
