Please forgive me is this has been discussed before. My lease will be up about one year from now, and I'll be leasing an'08. Will BMW NA no longer be offering us the normally aspirated 255 HP engine? Will our choice in sixes be limited to the 535i and 528i as is the case with the 3-Series? I would much prefer the non-turbo 255 HP six, but it looks as though we here in the U.S. we will continue to be limited in engine options if this is the case. Thanks!

In Europe the new 3 litre engine will have 272 hp as in the new E92 330Ci.

For some reason, BMW North America makes, in my opinion, bad choices for us. One example, do away with the sweet new N52 3.0 engine in coupes and sedans, and only make it available in the SUV's. Then, we must choose from the "3.5" turbo, or the de-tuned N52 "2.8". Rediculous!

why don't you like the turbo?
its faster than the normally aspirated engine and with a few simple mods you'll be putting down 350hp to the wheels.

Just wait for the facelift facts for the E60!

You do not have the fine diesels either...

Personally I'm reserving judgment. But I don't like turbo lag.

Roundel had photos of a mule revision 5er. Very little has changed on the outside but there weren't any photos of the rear either. The grill looks larger though.

I'm not opposed to the turbo . I just like the overall fuel economy/performance/smoothness of the new 530. I just don't need the benefits of the turbo, and won't settle for a de-tuned 230 HP version. It just sucks(the choice we have).

The cost to certify the engines is probably the reason we don't have as many options in the US.

I believe the EPA rating for the 335 (same engine you're talking about) is 22 and 29. So essentially the same fuel economy as the current 530, but with alot more fun. All the mags are reporting very little turbo lag.
