275/45 vs. 245/45 on rear axle

I'm thinking of using 4x 245/40 R18 on both axles, but noticed many E60 owners chose a combination of 245/40 R18 in the front and 275/35 R18 on rear.
Is there anybody who tried both 245 and 275 on rear axle? Any significant or notable stability/comfort difference or drive feel?
Thanks.

The standard sport package setup was 245s on the front, 275s on the rear. Is your car equipped with the sport package? My car was fitted with 225/50 R17s (winters, on top of that) and there's definitely a big difference in handling there.

Since I'm not familiar with the 540 E60 flavor I'll use the 535 as an example. 225/50/17 square is standard.
The M sport package (package ZMP) bumps up to style 135 wheels and 245/40/18 tires. This setup is square.
The light alloy wheel package (package 519) bumps up to staggered style 124 wheels. Front wheels are 18x8 and tires are 245/40/18, and rears are 18x9 and 275/35/18.

This is strange. So the M package actually offers narrower tires than the "light alloy wheel package"? ![Confused](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
How does that make sense?
Put it another way: I should be safe with 245/40 R18 square with my occasional sporty driving, if M package includes this size.

It means that one wheel option (staggered) uses wheel widths (8" / 9") sized to better suit tires of different sizes front to rear. And, yes, 245/40x18 on all 4's will be fine.

Thanks, I get it now.
Staggered is interesting because It provides more options, especially on E60. Found this useful table:
http://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk/...es-advice.html
- You can fit 215 up to 245 on 8".
- But you can also fit 245 up to 265 on 9" (although BMW fits 275)
So you can easily switch to narrower or wider rear tires depending on your needs. Also interesting for winter, where you can put 245 on all fours, and 245+275 in summer (while keeping the same alloys).

no rotations with staggered setup caused me to go to 245/40/18 for winter wheels. my staggered summer wheels look 100% better though. Performance difference is minimal, these cars are not performance oriented anyways. I have sport package...
