Hi everyone,

New owner of a 2010 535i and newbie to this forum here (been lurking for a few months though). My OEM tires are 245/40R18 (runflats) and I'm about to pull the trigger on buying a set of winter wheels/tires. Everything looks good except that the tires I'm buying as part of this package are 245/45R18 so the sidewall is a bit taller. This does not seem like any sort of big deal to either me nor the seller but just to satisfy myself, does anyone have opinions on this?

Thanks a bunch,

Shahab (aka Supergeeky)

Totally not recommended

Based on the calc., the resulted overall tire diameter difference would be 3.64%. On the speedo, when you are really travelling 100Km/hr, your speedo will show 96Km/hr.

FYI - The smallest calc difference for a 45series is 215/45/18

There is almost a inch difference in the height of the two tires. You can verify by putting the info here.

You've already received the links for tire size companions ... TireRack offers good selection and alternative sizes for your specific vehicle. For a winter setup you want to maintain as close to original rolling radius as possible to avoid performance and other issues. Many folks who do serious winter driving have found 17" wheels and the corresponding tire size [225/50x17"] the best option. You want to avoid extreme low profile tires for deep snow and ice situations.

Personally, I have found that all-season tires in my original size for my 530xi w/sport [245/40x18"] to be very serviceable. But it's an xi! If you decide to go the TireRack route check out the link in my signature to save a few more $$'s.
