Just a followup to my earlier post:

YES YOU NEED AN FCM LICENSE FOR CiC navigation (hdd) systems.

I have a 2010 e60 - which had an LCI refresh and updated the iDrive to CiC.

So now that I have the dvd's - I can't import them into my navigation w/o a FCS license. There are some people around various forums who sell them (much cheaper than BMW) - but it's still about $70-$100 for the license.

So to make it easy on everyone, here's a quick guide. I HAVE BOTH SETS OF DISKS! PM ME IF YOU'D LIKE THE TORRENT FOR THE CIC OR CCC VERSION OF THE MEDIA!:

2004-2008 (CCC):
  • Download CCC DVD's
  • Burn needed disc (Region 1 is East Coast Region 2 is West Coast)
  • Insert DVD into CCC and iDrive will see the updated disc.
  • Most users report the 'Burned' dvd discs are noticably slower than the BMW OEM discs. This appears to be normal, and is a side-effect of the burned media.
  • Make sure you turn on the 'Points of Interest' category for "Red Light" and "Traffic" cameras

2009-2010 (CiC)
  • Download DVD's
  • Obtain FSC License (BMW part #65902181742)
  • Create USB update after downloading CIC Version of media. UPDATES FOR CIC WILL NOT WORK FOR THE CCC DVD SET. Licenses are keyed to your VIN, so YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR ONE! NO SHARING! . This is the hardest part, as it can take some time to find someone who sells them @ a reasonable price. Google "Tischer"
  • Depending on which iDrive you have:
    -16x9[widescreen]=Professional:
    Update from DVD
    -4x3(Standard)=Business(Motion):
Update from USB stick in Glovebox
  • It will prompt you to update, and require a FSC code.
  • The update takes about 2 hours, and it is reccomended you keep the car powered with an external DC power source.
I have seen plenty of people report the update will run as long as power is provided. So a lot of people will start the update, and then allow it to run as they drive normally. The whole thing takes 2 hours, so if you start it, the next time you start a drive, it will pick up where it left off. More convienent than letting the car idle for 2hours, but could take longer to complete the update.

So I'm looking to get the FSC code within a few weeks. I already have the DVD's, and if anyone needs the torrent - just send me a PM. I'm seeding them off my seedbox, and will probably leave them up for as long as people need.

I just found out that CIC uses a different set of media to do the update

These will not work for CIC e60s

I am downloading the CIC version now (it's a USB stick update) - so when it's done I will have *both* sets of DVDs. CIC and CCC (2013) . PM me if you need the torrent - I'll share it as long as I seed it (which will be a while I'm sure)

Make sure you select them as a "Points of Interests" category in the navi

Thanks so much for recommending eBay seller "lmm1005" I just ordered a set; looking forward to the updated maps and POIs (currently using 2007). I know I could've downloaded via torrent and such, but they're big/many files and this just saved me the hassle.

I'll be sure to post details on how they work once installed...

DVDs work great in my LCI 550 - very happy with them. The eBay seller was awesome to work with and offered to send me a new set if I had any issues. The DVDs don't have some cheap sticker on them - the graphics are printed on the media surface (similar to LightScribe). My only complaint is with TomTom - my neighborhood was built in 2009 and showed up on my Volvo navigation, but it still doesn't show on the 2013 BMW navigation. Not a huge deal, but annoying.
