Just need some advice on my 2010 550i.

Just finished the break-in period of 1,200 miles and use the sport shift the first time yesterday. Everythings were fine until I slow down for a red light from 50 mph. You could feel the car very jerky from down shifting. I also noticed the tach surge from 1500 to 2000 while down shifting. The surge continue to happen everytime the car slow down for a red light or stop sign.

I decided to switch back to regular 'Drive'. The surges were still there but not as bad as in sport shift.

I have an appointment for my first oil change in 1 week (I'll be paying for this oil change), just wanted to know if this is a known issue with the 550i.

Thanks for all your help.

It's my understanding that the new SAT (Sport Automatic Transmission) has the same characteristics as the SMG tranny's of past. The sudden surge of RPM from 2000 to 1500 is probably due to the tranny down-shifting with a blip. It's perfectly normal as my 2005 545i SMG does the same thing. I specially love it with mine cuz I've got the Remus Exhaust system which grunts with a throaty rumble when it down shifts. As for the rough down-shift, you might take back to the dealership to have them "reset" the memory in the transmission. I believe that all E60s with steptronic/SMG have adaptive transmissions where it learns the driving behavior which should be reset periodically to factory settings. I do it with mine every 1000 miles or so because I drive in stop-n-go morning traffic. Do a search for 25 second reset. Good luck.
