2009 550 high idle, slight vibration
Hi guys
It's been a while but here I am with a question/issue that has arisen.
My car has otherwise been flawless in everyway however last week a friend who has a 2005 645ci had a bad altenator and needed to jump his car. Normally I would call AAA because I don't know how to jump a car but he insisted he did and it'd take a minute. My car is under warranty so I figured WTF - why not.
So I pull up behind his car and he connects cables from the battery in his trunk to the terminal under my hood. Let's it sit then attempts to start his car. No dice. (BTW - this is happening before its determined his alty is bad. For now its just a dead battery in our mind). So we let the my car continue to idle while the terminals are connected for about 5 minutes. He then tries to start again. No dice. He suggest I hold my RPM's @ 2500. Ok, sure. I was always under the impression that this didn't work but I'm trying to be helpful. Nothing. So we leave the terminals connected. I go back into my office to take a phone call and I come back. He's in the driver seat of my car and he's gotta have the RPM's at 4k lol. He hops out and says, hopefully that'll help. He tries to start his car - nothing.
I call my tow service who arrives within 20 minutes. He hooks up to his battery terminals and boom - car starts. I follow my pal to the Indy BMW tech and later in the day we find out its a bad altenator. $1300 later with a new battery - he's good to go.
My car still drives fine however now when idling, the rpm's look fine but it feels like the car is idling at a higher RPM. It's not rough but its also not smooth like it was before. It's just...different now.
What has happened and how can I get it back to "normal" where the idling doesn't feel like its doing so at an elevated RPM?
Thanks for the advice and suggestions
