I have been checking out variour configurations of the E61 while trying to finalize the colors for my order and I have noticed something interesting which I have not been able to find any dialogue on on this webiste. The new transmission is set into a cut-out for the manual transmission and a filler as been inserted. For both the Dark and Light Poplar trims, as well as the Bamboo trim, this filler is black and, quite frankly, looks like crap considering the cost of the vehicle. However, the insert for the Black trim is made in the trim material. I haven't seen the aluminimum so I don't know how that is done. Anyone else noticed this? Seems like BMW fell a few inches short in this one.

I think I know what your talking about, on the 2008 steptronic trans they put stainless steel trim over the black insert where it meets the center console. My 2007 has the old steptronic shift lever with the leather shift cover boot at the bottom. Now that you mention it I do prefer the leather cover as opposed to the stainless trim. Like many other "cosmetic touches" it boils down to personal preference. If you want a 2008 steptronic looks like you really don't have a choice.
