2008 E60 Indicator stalk removal.
Hello all,
I was driving today through a foresty area and was constantly using flash to pass just to see the road ahead as I did not want to leave my high beams on. All of a sudden the entire stalk stopped working. Now I am without indicators and high beam. BC and check button also does not work. Is there a fix for this ? Can I replace the indicator stalk or should I replace the entire assembly ? I read on the forum that if its a pre LCI you cannot replace the stalk separately. Since my car is LCI is there a possibility to do that ? Pls help as I need the car for to drive to work. I have not pulled any codes yet. But I will be doing it soon and post an update if I see any codes in the LCM. Any help is greatly appreciated.
TIA

I've never heard of that issue before. Just buy one and replace it if it's the issue. My car is a pre LCI and I can replace mine separately.

I am not sure of the part numbers either. I am about to go back to the car to pull some codes if any. May be it will reset itself after it is left for a while ? I hope so.
Any idea on the price ? do I need to code something or program the stalk if I replace it ?

Thanks for the help but I managed to fix it without touching it. There was a short circuit message. I believe there must be some sort of dust or something. I reset the LCM by recoding in NCS expert and everything in fine and working now. I will keep this link saved in case this happens again.
There was no need co recode it, it started to work after leaving the car off for about 30 min or so. I just recoded it to be make sure if it happens again I know its a hardware and not software issue.
Thanks for the help. Hope this helps someone else.

Sounds like the ill fated bare wires starting to expose syndrome. It will probably get worse but just keep recoding it until you can't.

Its the standard process.
step 1- make sure INPA and edibas are working properly
step 2- Use NCS expert to load the profile of your choice.
step 3- Read all ECU info through LMA
Step 4- Change job to read
Step 5- Select your Light Module ECU from the list
Step 6- Check if you have the right module by using NCS Dummy. If you see headlight related options you are good.
From here there are 2 ways. You can either use your daten files to code according to your VO or you need to have a backup of the file you know is good. I had a backup last time I did a factory code reset and used it to replace the .MAN file.
Step 7- program the module with that file.
All done.
Now if you do not have a backup I suggest you ask someone experienced to explain since I had done it a Long time ago and do not remember the process correctly. I have a slightly modified version of NCS expert from bimmerfest or some other website i believe. The options are slightly different. My INPA is also different from the standard one.

If you are talking about the wires in the headlight unit itself I do not think that is an issue with me. I have recently rewired the whole thing when I did a Switchback angel eyes upgrade. So this has to be some other problem. I did not even bother checking it for now since it happened while I was holding the stick and on off road, I think I might have pulled on the stick in some weird angle or something. I hope it was a one time occurrence...

Wow, that's quite an exercise.
Remember in 1983 when we would play with Microsoft DOS and execute EDLIN commands?
It was an insane time.
Steve Job said, there's an easier way.
Similarly, I can't believe we are still working with NCS and the Steve Jobs of the BMW world hasn't figured out there's an easier way.
