OP, check your wiring underneath your shift bezel as well. Your car has a 'drive-by-wire' connection from the shifter to gearbox, rather than a conventional mechanical connection like early E60s have. the wiring harness coming off of the shifter has been known to fray at certain points and cause erratic behavior such as what you're describing.

Yes that's the one. Quite a bit of work to change. You're going to want to do the pan/filer and fluid also.

QUOTE=BLACK_PRINCE54915;1559717]Hi mfrasca thanks so much for the technical service bulletins report. are you talking about this...transmission Seal adapter grommet for mechatronic valve body.. here is a link to what it looked like, is this the one you had to change on your BMW.

Hi KyleB it is getting warmer up here in Wisconsin so I am starting to order all the parts which I will need to work on my transmission and replace that bridge seal above the mechatronic valve body. Someone mention that there is also a temp sensor in the mechatronic which goes bad at times and may also be the cause of my transmission symptom. Do you know where this sensor is, did you have to change that sensor when you redo your transmission. Thanks for your help.

hey buddy, i hope you have already fixed that issue. I had the same and the problem has the transmission oil level low. All i had to do was flush it and refill to the proper level , i did it myself . No more issues since... hope this helps

Hi romelrod did you do a drain and fill or a complete flush, if you did a complete flush how did you get the fluid out of the torque converter. I currently have the car up on jack stands, waiting for the seal adapter ( someone post that this was the issue with their transmission malfunction message) which is behind the mechatronic valve body to come in the mail. Thanks so much for the infor I hope what you suggested work for me, I will post the result when I finish the job hopefull that is the fix to my problem

i just did a regular drain, not a full flush. the problem started when the hose that goes to the radiator broke . So whenever you switched the gear, it went back to park. It is a security feature to protect the trans. All you have to do is just drain it and refill with the proper oil. the pan under the car has a color code, has to be red or yellow. and that matches the exact type of oil you need. it is very important. do that and let me know.
good luck

AND???

Hopefully you fixed but come on, post a follow up on your results, you can't imagine how many others it might help.

I have been researching this exact issue for my 535 and have found 12 threads, with 0 follow ups on what worked, what didnt. ugh.

Hello there! Before I have been getting the same issues my car gave ABS error and whole lights were turning on and off and the battery died. When I stopped car didn't work again. Jumpstarter didn't even work to get the battery recharged so that bought a brand new original BMW battery couple days after got the same issues as you. I was just wondering which components have you replaced? Thank you
