I know the 550 has bigger brakes than the 530xi did - probably since its more comfortable at higher speeds (the weight difference is small between a 550 and a 530xi).
I can't speak for the comparison you make here regarding the 550 and 530xi, but the '08 550 and 535 have the same size brakes according to the recent US brochure posted on this site. Just pointing that out for those who might have missed it.

As mentioned before, the decision of 550 vs 535 won't matter to the "real world" buyers. The 550/545 has always been somewhat reserved for enthusiasts, so those sales are already lower in comparison to the amount people of buy 525 and 530's.
i sorta disagree with u on this cuz you're talking about "enthusiasts" will be more opt to 550/545's but 535i will have the N54 (i think?) with twinturbos which will draw MUCH more attention to the 535i because of it's capabilities in terms of modding and adding more ponies to the car.

Since most 550s are ordered/sold with sport package
and we now have a SERIOUS difference in cost between the 535/550 and not a serious difference in performance...
I'm betting that we see sales of the 550 drop significantly and/or some nice money factors on it by the fall - especially coupled with the fact that the 550 has significantly worse fuel economy.

For my money, while I have not driven the 535, I'm betting, I would go with the 535, especially since the aero package was never my style.
I'm on the freeway everyday in So Cal and see at least a dozen e60s a day...maybe 1 in 50 is a 550 the rest are usually 530s and 525s. So I will defineately agree we will see a ton of 535s as they hit the market and replace the 530s.

On another note...anyone know if the M suspension will have a faster steering ratio? The only thing I miss coming from 330 sport to 550 sport is the 3 had extremely fast steering response.

Exactly why I bought a 550i.

I wonder whether anyone agrees that the ratio is skewed in entirely the opposite direction when you look at US e60.net forum members' rides...

I wonder what that tells us?

Exactly why I bought a 550i.

I brought mine because its destroys the 530 (and many other light vehicles) in acceleration and the staggarded look is breathtaking. That said, I would not accept the prospects of my $55K+ ride being walked on by a V6 Camry. This of course is now properly corrected. Bout time BMW.

Given its limited in quantity, I guess thats nice. Most people (non-E60ers) don't know the difference anyway. Just see slightly bigger wheels.

Exclamation

Given the fact that many of the "facelift" features are changes for change sake rather than genuine improvements and their added cost to the MSRP are rather shatteringly expensive, the post-Sept. '06 production '07 550i sports seem like a relative bargain!

Yes. And my 06 550 even better. And it was ED'd.

Ya same reason for me too. the 530 at the time when I was in the market was waaaaay under powered. for $4K more, yes for $4k more (at the time i got it, compared to a similarily equipped 530) for the engine, brakes and wheels and exhsut tip $4k was worth the upgrade to the 545.

545 had the premium package as standard, had PDC as standard and a few other stuff so it was a better buy back then.

and FINALLY they upped the power enough so the 5 series doesnt get embarassed by other cheapie cars.

I'm not so sure what's "shatteringly expensive" about the LCI.

Depending on the labor charge for the installation of the aero kit for MY07, my 08 550 priced out somewhere between a couple of hundred dollars less to a couple of hundred dollars more than the 07. Oh, and I get 19-inch wheels instead of last year's 18-inchers (a pretty good change for change's sake, IMHO).

I'm not suggesting that the LCI 550 Sport is cheap, but it's certainly no more expensive than last year's model.
