After chipping the 535, purchasing the M kit, paint and install, you still got money leftover. As far as I am concerned right now at least, the premium $8000 for the extra weight of the V8, and M suspension is not worth it if you're performance oriented. With that said, I don't think anyone is racing every car they stop with at a light.

Your right. Assume you also add the premium package to the 535, how much more you got left?

The $8175 MSRP spread compares a 550i with a cold weather package, ZSP and auto (the premium package is standard) with a 535i with a cold weather package, ZSP, auto and the premium package.

I spoke to Dinan about their N54 development program. They're salivating over this engine with preliminary projections of 350hp with Stage I upgrades and closer to 400hp with Stage II. Still very preliminary estimates but directionally helpful. And to think I just dropped nearly $4k into my '04 545 to get up to 350hp (maybe)....
I'd rather consider Dinan if I'd change the programming. Even if it's more expensive than Vishnu, it would be worth it for the warranty and resale value.

Haha, holy crap, assuming you got your entire extra 25 horses, you spent $160 per HP.

My next car will definitely be a 535/335. I'm going to wait a bit and see what other tuners are doing/releasing, this cheap power potential of this engine is insane.

The PROcede chips works independently of the factory ECU, it piggy backs onto it. So if anything was to go wrong, simply take out the PROcede unit and bring it in. With no wiring or cutting involved (according to Vishnu), the dealer won't know.

I'll cerainly look into the Vishnu unit, but because Dinan is approved by BMW (many BMW delaers sell Dinan as well), it's a "safer path."

All said, the inline six biturbo has a big edge over the V8 in terms of chipping. Right now, some here report a 550 can be taken by a 335 in stock form. I'd suspect the 535 only to be slightly slower. Forget BMW's published results. The Vinshu upgrade probably makes it faster. From a driveability standpoint, the torque curve is better in the 535 and its questionable if you'd miss the 60 ft lbs of torque from the V8. The huge upside is chipping the turbo motor to 400 hps and being in M5 territory.
Everyone with a 550i can blame hollywoodtrash. It was him in the vids that are circulating around the internet where it appeared that his 550i SMG lost to the 335i. Two things to note: He mis-shifted and his Radenergie R10s are heavy. If the Walked U's stock 335i had went up against brian1225's 550i Step it would have been a better representation of what an actual outcome might be.

Only .2 seconds difference!

For most driving situations (around town, commuting, trips, etc.), it makes me wonder if paying an additional $8175 (MSRP) for the 550i (comparing "same package" cars: ZSP, cold package, auto, and premium package for the 535i) is really "worth" the extra money.
I think you are asking about two different things. 0-60 time does not matter much in the "around town" situations. V8 is much more pleasant to drive around (as opposed to step on it on a straight empty road), than turbo. Try 335 and then 550. Weight is almost the same, see which one you like.

HAHA exactly what I was gonna tell him too! He's not even talking about the 550 now, lol.

All jokes aside, can't go wrong with either. Except 1 of them will make your pocket slightly lighter than the other.
