Default 2008 550i USB not working

posted about this in the bluetooth section with no response in over a week. So I thought i'd try here. Sorry for the double post.

I purchased a used 2008 550i a couple weeks ago. LOVE the car.

I knew the USB port was in there. But never messed with it until I ordered an ipod/usb cable for the car from Amazon.

I plug it in, and my ipod also, and the USB stays grey. I click on it nothing happens.

So I thought it might be the cable. So i got a 2gb USB stick and loaded some music on it. Still didn't recognize the USB stick.

Has anyone ever had this problem? the AUX input and cable works perfectly.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Blake

You will need the BMW 6FL cable to connect the iPod like in Genes car. I also have this and it works perfectly. Your USB should work with a stick for sure. Maybe try another one. If this wont work, my guess is that the system is not on and you would need turn it on or make it active using ncsexpert coding. If your system is not on the 6FL will not work your iPod either. .

Zero power. I've tried multiple USB sticks with no luck.

How much would the dealership charge to "code" it? Any idea?

It is an option on my car because I see it there. I just can't select it. Maybe I'll take it in and see what they can do.

Your MULF2 module must be dead or disconnected. Does bluetooth work? Check fuse F37 (10Amp) in glove box. If it's OK then check connections to the module - #2 on diagram

I am in the exact same boat. A member on the Xoupost had a very similar issue. It potentially is the USB HUB situated right next to the MULF2 in the above picture. I have just ordered a replacement and will try it out once it gets here. Hoping this will solve it.

Here is the original forum discussion : USB Port has no power - Xoutpost.com

The hub can be found: http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Site...Hub/ES2101876/

Here is how to do it : http://bmw.workshop-manuals.com/5_Se...ex.php?id=3008

BTW, in my case, the battery was also recently replaced like the xoupost member. I will report back what I find and let us know if you make any progress.

Good Luck

Just wanted to report back that after replacing the USB HUB I can now report full USB functionality.

FAILURE MODE : AUX port works, but USB has no power

POTENTIAL CAUSE : Battery Replacement/Low Battery/ Jumping the car multiple times

RESOLUTION : Replaced USB HUB.

ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS: Yes to open the USB HUB and see what broke (If I get time, I'll report back what I find )

Default Similiar issue

I have a similiar issue but the USB sometimes loads. After mulitple attempts since i bought the car used, it finally load last night. I tried to change songs and the "loading" screen came up. After waiting almost 15 minutes i pulled the used and tried again. Nothing again!

Is this due to a loss/dam connection it the center consol itself ?

I think I'm having the same issue as Black. I have an '09 E61N. I have a USB and Aux in my center console, but when I plug in my iphone there is no power going to it and Aux is greyed out in the entertainment menu. Even when I plug in a USB (with a light that'll show power) no such luck. I tried plugging in 3.5mm aux cable that went to the phone again no such luck.

I'm not sure if this is a coding issue (enabling Aux) or if i need to replace the USB Aux Hub?
