I cannot find the bulletin, but I am sure I read somewhere that they are non-runflats and that there is a short shifter also available with the 6spd.
Correct and correct!!

Yep - looks like 19" style 172's with non-RFT's. Suspect we're going to see a significant increase in cost compaered to the current 550 sport pack but it will be worth it.

Well , since non RFTs are about 1/2 the price (retail anyway) of regular tires, maybe they will offset some of the increase in the Sports Pkg with the savings in the tire price.

I think it would have been better with the 166's Personally, I like the 166's over the 172's but they are probably trying to differentiate it more from the true M5.

I am curious the difference in what the M suspension will bring.

Is it real stiff? Is it too stiff?

hi all,
I'm was thinking of trading my 06 530 with SMG for an 08 550 and was disappointed to learn that SMG is no longer offered. Should i wait for the F10, maybe it will be an option then? What do you guys think? i can't see why SMG would have such a short run since it's technology has so greatly improved.

Correct, the ZSP package (Sport) on the 550i includes the M-Kit ... so it's part of the ZSP option price - which we don't know yet.

However, the 535i ZSP package does not include the M-Kit, so you should count on $2,750 to install that as an extra if you want it.

And we don't yet know what the price difference will be for ZSP between the two models.

For the 08 550i

The thought of the new tranny (faster car), and the stiffer and sportier suspension has me drooling. Actually, the new suspension is the most interesting.

That said, I bet the sport package gets way more expensive and buyers will get whalloped by another $3K+ over the head. Good Llord. This sucks for those (like me) who don't need nor like the M kit aero stuff.

Just give me the good fast goodies.

My two cents.

I don't believe SMG is dead. BMW has released it and retreated from it in the past, only to "upgrade" it and re-release it. Right or wrong, the E60's SMG has gotten some bad press and relatively poor sales. I bet that you'll see a "new and improved (again)" SMG with the F10.

Any idea what the differnce is between the new 550 Sport's suspension and the current 550 Sport's suspension?

Not an expert on this. But a few thoughts.

The 08 sports package includes non-runflats with 19 inch wheels. The suspension should be calibrated different for this reason alone. Additionally, I've heard the M sport package includes sportier suspension tuning with the active roll, a firmer ride, and possibly different suspension bits. The original runflats probably forced BMW to soften the suspension, while its true that active roll allows for a softer ride in normal driving and firms up as cornering forces increase. For the E60, this previously was not available for the U.S. and was a gripe for some here because it was available in the European and possibly even Canadian markets. I'd check with our European bros on this.

Should be a better package IMHO.

CVT:

I'm hoping you're right. My 04 is my fourth 5er and it's the "softest" one yet . . . a disappointment for me. I'm hoping the 08 goes back to the more traditional BMW ride.

Um, are we giving any thought to the fact that this car with all the goodes will cost around SEVENTY FIVE grand? Given the tumble in M5 prices, I'd have to think twice about that...at least until a few are in the system and I can own a single digit mile car for way less than MSRP. Yeah, I know it's not the same car, just my .02....
