Greetings all! So here we go: Several months ago while parking in my garage space, I put the car in reverse and began backing up into my space, slowly tapping the brake pedal and turning the wheel when I heard a loud clunk/thud. As I heard the noise, I felt it on the brake pedal and steering wheel (simultaneously?). It is now a regular occurence and I have been to the dealer three times, but when I get there, the car does not replicate the noise. SA states that it could be the transmission, but there is nothing that they can do unless they replicate the noise with a tech in the car.

to summarize:

Loud thud/clunk noise
Only happens when in reverse
Feel a slight virbration on the brake pedal and steering wheel

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thank you!!!

first thing i'd check is the front brakes and all the suspension links up front. does it happen if you don't have your foot on the brake?

Felix, most of the time it happens when I turn the steering wheel and tap the brakes as I am reversing. It's like a tensioned break. Just like the noise that the car makes when you release the hood (lol of that makes any sense) Just out of curiosity, what would make you think its the brakes?

You have to lift the car and inspect it. Could be worn control arm bushings.

I'd guess one of the front lower ball joint is the cause of that noise.
Only way to verify that is to look at the ball joints while someone turns the steering side-to-side.

Also, check to see that a caliper is not loose.
Keep us posted if you find the issue.... good luck
