I recently purchased the 08 535xi and when I was driving home the engine light came on. I checked the manual to see what could be the problem and I found out that I was under -700mls for oil change.
Is that the reason why my engine light came on? I would assume an oil symbol of some sort to pop up instead of the engine light.
If it happens to be the oil change, will the alert go away after I finish doing the oil change?
I also noticed that the oil level is tracked electronically...does it it reset it self automatically after the oil is filled?
I just bought the car so I apologize if I'm bombarding the board with questions.

even if you go past the oil interval, I think I-drive would notify you through the control message center on the idrive and not with the light like that. Even if the oil level is low, I don't think it will light up in such way. May more LCI owners can chime in but if you still have warranty, bring it in to make sure.
But as for changing oil, once you're done, you can reset the interval yourself. There are several instruction on how to do that or you can google it. There is even a youtube video on how to reset the interval.

Thats service engine. Probably a BS light. Usually gas cap sensor or something minor. Change your oil and have them check the light. If you put aftermarket shit in the engine than that explains that

No I jsut bought the car and luckily it was still under warranty. I called up the dealer and asked about the problem and they said it could be the gas cap not being shut tightly. I have an appoinment tomorrow morning so hopefully that was the case.

Get ready for the fun! and welcome to the club. We'll help you through your misery.
I've been fighting this light for about 6 months now, mine relates to increased emisions. Let us know what the dealer says
