I am buying a 2008 BMW 535($26,000) which has done around 51000 miles. Well, i am worried about the reliability of 535. I am actually between a 335 and 535. This would be my first BMW. I heard people saying 335 is much reliable. But why, they both have the same n54 engine. Do we have any extra maintenance costs involved in 535i ???? Is it ok to buy a 5 series BMW which has done more than 50,000 miles. I heard 535 engine has some heating problem.
I am big fan of 5 series that is why i chose to buy 535i. But if i have to spend some 6000$ every year for some repairs i cannot afford for it. I am totally ignorant about BMW's. Guyz please suggest me. I just heard about HPFP issues in 5 series. Is it so evident in 535 which has done 50000 miles.

My Ride: 2006 BMW 550i
thats a good price on that 535i.
the main thing to be aware of about the 535 and the 335 cars, is the high pressure fuel pump failures, which come on the turboed cars. they are known for failing. i beleive bmw has a 100k warranty on the pump. thats the main issue i'd look in to.
in my opinion a 550i is a better choice and more reliable if you can afford it.

My car has had that at around 17,000 miles for the HPFP and 22,000 miles for the fuel injectors. I am over 28,000 right now and thus far no problem. While it is an issue to be concerned, the 535 is a brilliant car and the engine is just awesome.
