Recently bought a 550i and the 1st issue I have come across is that the inside of the wind shield/windows mist up over night. I have also now concluded the smell inside that I thought was some sort of cleaning spray is infact the smell of damp.
Has anyone had similar experiences and know what sorts of things I should be checking?
I will lift the carpets front and back to see if there is any water under the carpets which will tell me how bad this could potentially be!![Barf](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/barf.gif)
Thanks

You may want to look at this document, So you just bought an e60. Particularly at pages 10 & 15 that will point you in the proper direction. Also check for water in the trunk under the spare. You have electronics down there!

All told a very good read...

Point to note mine doesn't have a sunroof but I will look into the other areas that have been mentioned.

Also check all 4 doors for water within. There are plastic bungs on underside of each door that can be removed. The weatherstripping below the doors becomes encrusted with dirt sealing the drains.
The only other area is the compartment air filters. Primary drains are at base of hood struts. There are also secondary drains below cabin air filter trays. One above the e fuses box on leftside and one on right by break fluid expansion tank. If they are blocked, water will enter through the hvac system and run down the cabin side of the firewall.

Consider checking the right front carpet area. If the drain or drains for the air vent and Cabin air filter are plugged water will find it's way into the interior and into the floor area . There are some pretty serious electronics in that area as well.

How's your engine coolant ? If your loosing coolant likely have a busted heater core.

Coolant levels fine and doors are all dry too.
What I have found is that the rain tray on the drivers side (Passengers side for the US) has a crack in it so when I removed it there was some dampness under there and could be the cause for the leak. I can only assume when the brake fluid was last replaced the cover was removed and cracked. I need to source a replacement tray to see if this remedies the problem.
Removed the drivers side door sill and peeled back the carpet and its wet underneath the carpets so I also need to spend some time taking the carpets out and drying the inside out and trying to get rid of that smell!

For a short time fix, run a bead of silicon sealant over the cracked lid to mitigate future damage. Make sure the ebox is completely dried out to ensure no future electrical problems manifest. Too many sensitive relays, CPUs, etc in that box...
