I'm not sure where you get this marketing thing from. The 07s comming out this month are most certainly 2007 model year cars. There are changes and upgrades to the content as well as the options and the car has gone through all the government testing and whatnot required for a new model year. It is far from a marketing ploy - in fact, rumor has it that it was driven by California emissions.

yes cars in the US will be "branded" as 2007 and like someone said BMW most of the time introduces little changes mid years most of the time march sometimes may sometimes July and ALWAYS September. BUT in Europe they are still 2006s and to BMW AG all the cars now still contain "2006 stuff" IF you use BMW AG as a baseline, which I think we should.

The E46 was intruduced in 1998 and got facelifted in 2002.

The E46 coup? was intruduced in 1999, I owned one delivered in June '99.
let me resay this again, yes the E46 sedan came out in 98 as a 99 model year car. then it was facelifted in 2001 as a 2002 Model that's only three years in model years. 99-01 prefacelift 02-05 facelift.

OK guys,
to settle this MY 07 thing, it?s like this:

BMW AG (the company) has made very minor changes, commencing in production from March 2006. In the German pricelist effective 1st of March 2006 (with a slight rising of overall prices) You have exactly four changes: 1. Aux-In is standard on all models; 2. You can choose a Innovation Package (containing things like active steering, bi-xenon, Dynamic Drive at a better combo price); 3. Night Vision available at 1.950 EUR; 4. DVD wiring for back seats available. There are definitely no changes in exterior or interior design right now.

Model Year 2007, seen from this side of the atlantic ocean, starts in September 2006; when a facelift of the E60 with some changes concerning front and rear mounted parts (i.e. bumpers, maybe lights, grilles or similar) is quite possible, but not fur sure yet.

Sorry, but the world does not revolve around the US, and European model years change in September, after the summer holidays in August with a reducing of working shifts in most car works. Everything else would just be a marketing thing.

Just my ?0.02.

ok, here are another 2c. but these ones are in US$ ;-)

I'm about to order my 530 this Monday here in Florida US.
the sales man, told me that "for the first time" BMW will launch the new model 07 in march.
Since I'm ordering SMG mine one will be here in about +/- 6 weeks.
So..., as soon as I get it, I can post a brief report and see what are the changes.

have an ultimate driving day ;-)

I love absolutists. ALWAYS - NEVER. Jeez.

Help me with one thing EBMCS03. When the "freshened" 7er was introduced in the spring of 2005, was it called a model year 2005 or a model year 2006?

Depends on the changes... if they're minor body changes then the ///M's almost never get the updates. They don't need it.

First of all what are you JEEZ-ING about? Put on your bi-focals and get out your magnifying glass and read what I said again... If you read my comment correctly I didnt argue that it WASN'T going to be a 2007. Nor was I talking about the 7 series OR the 3 series for that matter... The "ALWAYS" comment was stating that BMW ALWAYS makes changes, new features, facelifts, etc in September... and I was talking about THIS instance that The E60 is still "a 2006" model around the world besdies the US where they just "branded" it as a 2007 again.

And if you wanted to test me the E65 2006 7 series was announced on January 27, 2005 and Debut March 23, 2005 at the NY international Auto Show along with the E90 2006 3 series that it was going to be sold in MAY 2005 as a early 2006 model. And now back to my first comment... did I not also say "somtimes may" that BMW will introduce changes?

"Absolutists..." Ya for September changes Ya I'm pretty "absolutists" about that.
