I am driving my friends 2002 v8 s-class with 60k milies and i can purchase it from him or i can buy a new 530i with comfort seats with all the cool options . i am 31 years old , have a bad back and i drive 25k miles a year mostly highway driving. i like the s- class being quiet and smooth but it is a 2002. Any thoughts? i appreciate your expert opinions. I had to trade my audi 2005 a6 in because the seats, seating position, and entry was killing my back. i test drove the 5 series for a day and it seems fine for my back.
thanks
thanks

The S-Class is a nice car, I do loads of miles in a 2005 S320cdi and it is an easy and relaxed drive, but it is also a little boring too.
I can't wait to get back in my 5 series after being in the S all day, and my Dad, whose S320cdi it is, is always the one who wants to swap for the day, not the other way round, which I think says it all.
He thinks the S-Class is a bit too old manish, and he is 63, which I think also says alot.
In fact he just had me looking on autotrader to see about swapping his for a 535d or a 730d.
The S-Class is a great car, but it is like being pushed round the roads in a big couch, the BMW is just fun from start to finish and relaxing when needed.

The S-klasse is really nice with its airsuspension and everything.
But for a young lad like you the E60 is better.
More sport and guts to it.

we have got both cars...and i bought the 5ser because the s-class is just to boring. but now that i have the 5er and i drive the s-class i get amazed at the comfort of the suspension, and the ride, and the lightness off the steering...and although it does have supprisingly good grip, lets not forget its very heavy and not agile at all.
the 5er with regular seats are bad...im sorry to say this but its true. they dont adjust properly, they are too hard, the headrest is so far away its useless, not very supportive...but the comfort seats are perfect..they make up for all that they support evey bone and fit everybody...
and the to be honest the MB isnt that good on long drives either, although they look very nice and are quite supportive. the are just a little hard, and in a long drive my rear does go numb,, but their has been an upgrade in the seats i think in 2004 for the s-class i suspect for that reason...its because u expect more from a car in that level,....
i dont know were you from but the MB dealers where i am are just too expensive, while with a BMW you get the 5 year service plan and for 5 years you dont have to worry....
