Title says it all. What changed under the hood on a 2008 550i? I assume the oil dipstick went away? Is the engine unchanged?

The 2008 550i does have a dip stick , can't say I know of any horsepower or mechanical changes from 07 to 08 , but I'm sure others will reply

No other material changes. Same 4.8L engine in the '07 and '08...

No way!! '07 is faster. Smaller, lighter wheels, slicker aero, more experience - WAY faster.

I read it on the internet - it MUST be true!

Option of a far better sport automatic transmission is available in 2008.

lol, what makes it "far better"?

btw - the transmission itself is the same.

The SAT will out shift the SMG. I have owned both. It's a smoother shift and faster shift. And the best thing about it is: It's not SMG

Same physical transmission, different software.

Standard "Steptronic" example
The software is completely different. Example, if i use the paddles with out the "sport button on" it is a lazy manual shift. Push the clutch, grab the shifter, slow pull, engage the clutch, gear engages, revs raise.

SAT software
Push the sport button, hit the paddle shifter, by the time you push the paddle, your in the next gear with throttle blip and at RPM is instant. smooth down shift and imperceptible.
