If you don't do that, the car jumps forward as you try to start it if it isn't in neutral. That creates another problem - the clutch interlock relay can go bad. Hi guys. Newbie here to the forum. I thought the issue with this was my battery since I had replaced my starter two years ago. Guess what? I was wrong. Battery was fine, needed a new starter again. $900 later, good as new, running fine. Get a new starter.
