I was in my buddies 2 week old x3 yesterday and I was using his NAV, it looks like he has the newest nav dvd. I saw two changes from my dvd (2006 550 october build) When your on a freeway the voice instruction tells you the exit number and when you have arrived at your destination it tells you which side of the street the destination is on. On my car the exit number is only displayed in the screen, and it doesnt tell me which side of the street the dst. is on.

I'm glad I have the latest then. The side of the street feature was available on my 2000 540i. I'm glad we're making progress. ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/rolleyes.gif)

I have the latest NAV DVD in my 550i (02/2006) and it doesn't tell you what side of the road your destination is either.
I think either the NAV system on the X3 is different (I'll be able to give an answer for that this weekend when I take delivery on my X3...) or it's just a settings issue. - it is definitely not the Ver. of the NAV DVD.

Hope we're not confusing the Latest High version found in the X versus the Latest Professional version found in the 5. They are completely different systems.

EDIT: But my g/f's very pretty friend likes my NAV, over the NAV in her car. She's got the 2004 Mercedes SL500.

Yeah... I tried it on the way home. I had the car for a week now and this is the first time I try the NAV
I have to say I'm a little disapointed. The Carin MkII (4:3) NAV in my E39 and (16:9) version in our E53 would tell you what side of the street the destination was on. My new 2007 won't.

For all the advanced technical gizmos the E60 has, the lack of telling the driver which side of the street the destination is at is very, very disappointing.

One important thing for everyone to keep in mind here is that I'm pretty sure that the DVD contains the database but the car's software (CIP) contains the instructions, etc. so features like announcing what side of the street the destination is on is not dependent on the updated disc.
NavTeQ already provides that information, it's how BMW uses it that's important...

I think your point of the data being on the DVD, but not being correctly or usefully processed by the BMW NAV system is very much to the point. The system seems to be incredibly accurate in terms of location, but instructions are not always as they really should be. I am impressed with how quickly the system recovers when you alter course or make a turn not in the systems instructions. I think I only travel less than 50 feet from an intersection and the NAV system has corrected to my change in direction.
