In a tale of irony, BMW in Munich has given us an incentive to change our oil every 3,000 miles (whether we like it or not) without directly asking us to do so. Here's why:
- oil will leak from the car's gaskets
- oil will be burned from worn engine components
- the oil pan sensor will give inaccurate readings or fully malfunction
Now were forced to change the oil every 3,000 miles to make sure there is enough oil in the engine.
The irony is we'll all become expert at changing the oil faster than a Daytona 500 pit crew exercise, and our engines will last longer for it.

Hi I'd be more than happy to help you with the iDrive menu but first you'll need a K+D can cable and some software. I used NCSexpert and NCSdummy and got the menu to pop up in the iDrive in under 5 minutes but yet again, I don't get a reading for some reason so that might just happen to you too.

If you're not changing the part and or cabling I wouldn't thing you would get a reading. With the way it is the sensor only gives information to the computer on pressure loss which triggers a low oil light. Getting the oil meter to work you would need a different sensor and/or a connector with at least another pin. I'm going to look it up to make sure.

The one in your car does not show the level in the iDrive which is below. I would assume the coding you did got it to actually receive reading from the sensor but the wrong sensor is in it to give the reading
