Anyone else feel that this is a bit premature for 2006 US models?? I would have thought that the 2005 production run would run at least for a few more months.
(I think in Europe they count model years differently.? Maybe this information isn't true for the US market?)

If major things like engines change there is no difference, the new model year starts on 1 January
well, i do know that in the US, it started in MAY usually. this is kinda odd tho, maybe they decided to make an exception this time with the coming of the E90, they might have figured, why produce 2 different 3 liter engines at the same time? just my $.02
I know my dealer told me that he would have had to put an order in Friday to get a custom '05 530 built. So I think you are definitely on to something. Glad I waited this out a bit. I was almost going to pull the trigger on the 530, then the 545. Now I have a bit more performance in the 530, a better value IMHO than the '05 model.

I know the model year has a "normal" expectation, and probably some historical perspective, however, BMW does state in its' literature that ?BMW reserves the right to make changes at any time, without notice, in colors, materials, equipment, specifications and models. BMW may, subject to legal requirements, determine the Model Year designation of its vehicles. The Model Year designation on any particular model may be longer or shorter than 12 months.?
I am personally no longer surprised by what any of the domestic or foreign auto makers "designate" their vehicles' model year.
i orginally thought it'd be the same thing, but i am just waiting on him to send me the official documents about this. whole thing, tho he did tell me that i would'nt get the car even if i order it for another 3 months or so, so maybe right now the production orders are backed up till after march so if we order now then we'll defiantely get the new 06 production. what do u think?
He told me that the dealership doesn't have the allocation numbers for the new models yet. He has given me the option to order the new car now so that he can get the order in as soon as the allocation numbers come in, thereby ensuring that the car can be among the first that the dealership will order. We didn't discuss the time frames for the actual production, though. I will ask the time frames the next time we talk. I don't want to order until I see the prices.
My SA just got back to me, and said, that they have already put in orders for new 06's, and that any NEW orders made will be 06 models. he said he does not have any documentation as of now, but he said all 05's will continued to be sold off unless it is required to be a new order, such as what i am getting, with SMG. I'm pretty happy right now that i'll get a the new engine
