Hello all - I have a problem with my front brakes. It is a 2006 550i and the front brakes screach something fierce, even when the aren't applied. Its so embarrasing. I asked the BMW tech and he said that it is common for this car to do this because of the brake sensor, but he offered no remedy. He said the brake system looked fine and that I didn't need new brakes. I told him that I never thought that I would be embarrased to drive a $65k car.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Trying bedding them. It could work miracles.

what is happening is.. the brake sensor is touching the rotor when you are braking...

sometimes moisture can stuck and can cause those noise but mostly it is coming from metal piece from sensor is touching it...

i replaced just sensor and it didnt make any more noise..

I had the same problem, even when I got the brakes replaced! Turned out it was a stupid $25 sensor that was worn. There is one in the front left caliper, and one the rear right caliper. Very easy to replace. Infact I have a extra one laying around somewhere here, if it is the case, pm me

I have a 2006 550i also. got it CPO and had the same problems with the brakes. My dealer replaced the pads (and probably the sensor) and I have not had any noise from the brakes in 6 months now.

I had this screeching brake problem also, and gave "bedding in the brakes" a try and turns out it works! follow those instructions they may help for you.
