2006 550i (intermittent teapot whistling noise) @ cold engine start
Hi Guys,
Got a (intermittent teapot whistling noise) coming from under the hood or underneath in the middle of the car with cold-engine start. The noise last about 30-45 secs and then it goes away. Can't figure out what it is, anyone hear this on their V8s?
The noise is not from the (Both PCV "Positive Crankcase Ventilation", serpent belt, ac belt, belt tensioner or the deflection pulley) since they were all recently replaced.
Thanks,
seahawk

Did you ever solve for this? My 2006 550i is doing exactly the same thing. I believe it has something to do with the alternator or charging strategy. If I let the car sit at idle while the whistling is going on, it will start to stumble and misfire, eventually triggering the check engine light. Once the whistling stops, it runs smooth as silk.
Thoughts anyone?

Hi Ghost550i,
I'm currently living with this and think about getting the water pump done as was suggested from a member on bimmerfest, let me know if you do find out what the cause of this.

I replaced the water pump about 9 months ago. There was a squeaky noise audible at idle...After pulling the drive belt, I could see that there was slop in the water pump pulley. This "teapot" noise is definitely a different issue.
Wonder if anyone would know where is this "teapot" noise coming from. It's been like this for a year now.
