2006 530xi blown engine, still with in 4 years warranty but has 52,000 miles

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

need help

I just sold a 2006 BMW 530xi on 14th this month , that night he drive about 500 mile. next day he text me and said [My drive soo good, I just couldn't believe how nice of a ride the car was! Great on highways and you don't even realize the speed your driviing cuz everything is so smooth! Thanks again!]

He called on 18th and told me there was smoke come out engine, and send me a picture of engine that has a hole side of the engine,
I just did a Full inspection at BMW at 49,000 miles and about 5 month ago, only drove2,000 miles over the winter, and the is still only 3 years and 9 month old,
I will try post a picture of the hole in the engine.
I spoke to the Tech at BMW, they said this car has the best engine out
there, bullet proof. They said the only way this could have happened is if
the car was abused or over revved for a long period of time,

need help

I agree with the tech.

Sucks for the guy that bought the car, what are the laws in your state regarding private sales? If you had the car inspected by BMW 2000 miles ago and have service records it?s not your fault.

Either the buyer has the absolute worst luck in the world or he beat the crap out of the car and blew the motor.

At 52k miles the car is out of warranty. Its 4 years OR 50k miles which ever comes first BMW might cover some or all of the repairs of the original owner, and they have the service records on but if the car has gone through several private sales my guess is they won't cover it.

50K miles is 50K miles brother. unless we live in oppisite land, 52K is more then 50K. that really blows that something like that would happen so shortly out of warranty

+1 What a drag. Even if the guy did rod the piss out of it, you wouldn't expect that.

Was it a stick or auto? You shouldn't be able to over rev. an automatic.

Correct. Even in manual mode, my Steptronic will upshift if you hit the rev limit and will not allow you to shift into a gear that would overrev the engine. I saw both of these features in action at the April 25th meet as I pretty much kept my trans in manual mode in M2 or M3 for the twisties and in M4 for the faster straights.

An engine blowing at 52K miles (absent a total lack of maintenance/oil/etc) is scary.
