I should say I am a total newbie when it comes to BMW's Sat Nav Pro but when I get to the destination entry stage and try to enter a postcode, after entering the initial letter, the word recognition feature restricts the range of second characters I can insert hence precluding postcode entry.
Is that what you found with 2006-02?

Bingo, thats exactly what I get! I can enter a postcode in version prior to 2006-02 but not with 2006-02. I think we both need to contact our dealers to ask whats up!
However does anyone have a new e60 which came with the 2006-2 DVD that can confirm if the full 7 char UK post code is now possible? I have the 2006-1 version which only allow 5 char entry and then I need to enter the street name manually, which I want to avoid.

I know that in the past if you upgraded your Navigation DVD version you needed to also get your CIP upgraded because the DVD was not being recognised completely or correctly.

That is precisely what I have - a brand spanking new April 2006 car which came with the 2006-02 DVD - no way to enter postcodes (so far as I can see!) for the reason mentioned above (see my earlier posts in this thread).

I have 2006-02 DVD, It still only allows level 5 input of the postcode.
I read somewhere that the post office owns the rights to the full 7 digit post code, BMW probabley used all the budget up on runflats

Right. After entering the initial letter of the intended postcode, the word recognition feature built into the software restricts the range of second characters I can insert. For example, if I tried entering a Doncaster postcode (DN something), after entering "D" I cannot enter "N" since the letter N is not selectable via the i-drive - also there seems to be no way in which numeric characters can be selected. Hence the postcode cannot being entered.
Whether there is a problem with other aspects of my car's electronics causing or contributing to the problem or whether 2006-2 simply does not permit postcode entry is something I don't know. I have no experience of software versions prior to 2006-02 so I was unaware that postcode entry was an option in earlier versions - it was only through this thread that I became aware of its previous availability. It is such a useful tool that removing it from a supposed "upgrade" doesn't make sense so it might well be some other feature of the car's make-up that is not working as it should.
With that in mind, how do I find out what CIP I've got and what is the latest?
One other thought - my DVD is the Road Map Europe Professsional 2006-2 - is that the one you guys are talking about or is there a UK only version?
Mathmos - I will raise it.

The UK version of 2006-2 DVD does definately support postcode entry. I have an Oct 2005 build, 55 UK registered car which has been updated to CIP 21.01.
It does however only support level 5 post code input and not the full 7 digit input, see my previous post for thoughts on why this is the case.

I suggest that if you are not able to input post codes via the address input line you take your car back to your dealer and demand he fixes the fault in your prof-nav.

I have just taken delivery of a UK MY2007 car with Prof Nav. It has the 2006-2 DVD. It does not permit me to enter postcodes at all. The dealer says they will look into it. Will update when I know more.

Does anyone here know of any differences in the European 2006-1 and the 2006-2 DVD? Besides normal road updates. i.e. Are there any new features added?
