[quote name='stream' date='Jan 25 2005, 12:27 PM']On my '05 545i that I picked up last week, the only interior items pictured above that I don't have are the silver levers on the A/C vents.

Although I don't use nav much, I wouldn't mind getting the new version--anybody know if this a software only update that will be available?

Welcome to the forum, Stream!

Do these soft paint surfaces really make a big dif?

Thanks for the welcome!

Soft paint has a nice rich look to it--to the untrained eye they might think it's leather. I've had it on interior part in a few Porsches, and it looks nice. I can't say how it compares to the previous material on the E60 since I've never seen the previous material.

I know it's been used on 630i in europe, so tried find some insight of new engines from current owners but I found not that much info.

If it was a totally new car thats one thing, but I would not worry as much about just a new engine. How has reliability been for all the 1st year E60 buyers? Most of the bugs have probably been worked out by now.

Aren't the new engines simply the old one's with Valvetronic added? If so, it seems that the reliability isn't going to suffer much since the block and overall design is the same as the tried and true version.

I'm just now starting to pay attention to the new 6-cyl engine information so if I'm way off, please let me know!

I've got the Ruthenium Climate dials, soft paint i haven't noticed i'll have to check and the storage can i retrofit it? Or do i need a new dash/console?

The leather handbrake grip i've got, maybe i can retro the Bird's Eye Navi and Ruthenium vent things?

But only if it's $$$ worth it.

No!! The new engine is Magnesium for starters. The displacement has been increase and fuel comsumption is improved for starters. I chose to wait for the new R6 engine until it is released. I am not sure about the reliability but I beleive that it cant be much worse than what is currently available now. I will not order one until the M Sport Package is an option available in the US. I purchased my wife an Acura RL to drive for 6 - 8 months and she seems to like it. It just doesn't drive as well a the German car but makes up for many other things in other ways. I only hope I can get her out of it after I get her new 5 series. I plan to use it as a daily driver once I replace it.

What was the buildd date of your 545I. Based on the Document above the new AC knobs should have been installed as of 9/2004. I will check mine when I get home they bettre be there. Also can't wait for the Nav update Love Nav used it alot wth other veh I owned.
