I would advise doing a reset if the fluid has not been changed. You should be changing your fluid every 30k - 50k depending on what works for you ($$$). You might have other issues that plagues your model. I don't know if being on the 5 series site will help you out much. It might get you in the general ball park but actually fixing your issues might be correctly detailed on other sites that cover the model you have.
sean, I'm having trouble finding the DIY section...could you hit me back with a link, please? Having the 2-1 jerk on that '05 545i in my other thread, and figured I would try any software updates before swapping out fluid (which I am about to do anyway).

I read an old post of yours pointing somebody to the KyleB thread, which I think I found on Google but seems to have evaporated...also, any advice/instructions you can provide on using INPA or some other software to update the trans computer would be great.

I am only addressing the transmission since this is what you are having trouble with. Your Trans fluid should be a regularly changed item.

The "guibo" coupler u-joint could very well be your issue. Have you tried looking at it to see if it is worn. Take a Saturday and take everything apart. If it worn then replace it. Make sure you have a friend with you. Have a look at the video below. Also make sure you change that fluid.

got a good price on a 2004 545i wondering if there's a solid solution to this, has the same problem slams/wont go into drive from park. also has a leak that has consistently comes back after replacing a couple parts/gaskets in the trans. Saw in a couple videos that changing the whole trans kit helps
