2005 BMW Broken into
My 2005 5 series was broken during the week or at least attempted to be broken into. I came to my car and noticed that the door lock and been drilled out. I have a few questions. If they drilled out the lock with the security system could they get in? I doesn't look like they actually got in the car. My next question is the police said that they where definately trying to steal it i didn't think it was possible or at least very difficult to steal this car with all the alarms and technology that the 5 series has? Finally looking for recommendations of what dealer in NJ people feel has the best service department and body shop.

Well obviously its was very difficult to steal, you still have your car! Yes, breaking into the car may be fairly simple, but actually driving it away is much more difficult because of the security features like the coded key system. That being said, a truly professional thief will be able to steal just about any car they want. no matter the security systems. For piece of mind, consider adding Lojack or some similar locator system.

1) Steel the key from the owner
2) Hijack the car
3) Tow it away
There has been some X5 thefts in Europe where the thiefs has somehow got the security codes.
I'm not sure, but I think that the E60 has a different security system than the E53.

Very simple way to steal anycar, aquire 4 moving dollys, and a jack and place a dolly under each wheel, then push the car inquestion anywhere you want, but keep in mind a dolly does not have brakes so do not attempt on slated pavements.

[/quote]The only problem with BMW Assist is, any thief who is good enough, so that he can steal an E60, knows about BMW Assist... And he knows how to disable it...
Like the iceman said anyone thats goining to risk stealing a car, in this case the e60 would be doing researcha nd finding the traps and knowing the codes etc. so if a professional wants to they can given the right tools and know how.....man made man can conquer it as well

last thing you want is to guess what "happened" to the vehicle under their possession.
