2005 BMW 530d e60 Transmission Fault
I've bought the car recently and the transmission feels like it is not shifting correctly. When driving normally the car would occasionally shift into a new gear and suddenly jolt, this was followed by a transmission fault error. Most times I would pull the car over turn it off and on again and the fault was cleared. Recently the same problem happened but now the fault won't be cleared by simply just turning the car on and off again. The car is drivable, just in limp mode so It won't switch gears.
Any suggestions?

Yes do a service on it. I'm sure the fluid is either low or old. Continuing driving while not serviced will only lead to you having to spend more money replacing the transmission. These transmissions are tanks unless you ignore the signs of them needing a service. It should be serviced at a minimum of every 50k miles.

The problem has been on going since I bought it and I was able to clear the fault code with a friend who owned a high end obd2 scanner. I took it into the mechanic the day after and they did a fluid change, they also noticed the engine mount was broken. Other than that they said there were no problems. The problem continued to happen. Some of the symptoms I've researched could link to a faulty solenoid, do you think this could be the case?

On these a fluid change is not enough after 100k miles. You must change the 4 cylinder sleeves and bridge gasket between the valve body and transmission. The solenoids can become an issue but I doubt it is your issue. You can either opt to change them while the VB is out or risk having to change them in the future. I'm pretty sure its the sleeves and gasket that is your issue. There's an extensive how-to in the DIY section that will show you everything that a service includes. I would read it so you can get a better understanding of the issue these E60s had
