Picked up my 2005 545i 6speed on friday and what a joy. Turned in a 540i 6speed and the difference is amazing. The satelite radio is awesome. The power is superband the handling is marvelous. MY 2003 was a good comparison. No match for the 545i 6speed.

Congratulations cas. uhhmm, pictures? Why didn't you get the SMG that everyone raves about? Please give me your thoughts. I still have not made of my mind, 6 speed or SMG.

Get rid of your CDV and install a clutch stop and you'll love it even more!

Hey all--I'm new around these parts. I ran accross the site yesterday. It's very useful--I'm already starting my savings plan for the new 550i.

Anyway, I assume that CDV is the circuit that kills the starter unless you depress the clutch, which makes the clutch stop impractical, at best. If so, how would I go about getting rid of it (without running afoul of my lease obligations)? Much like the author of this thread, I also opted for the manual six-speed (530i) because I enjoy using the clutch. I would love to install a clutch stop but the prospect of leaving my newfound joy parked in the garage with a disabled starter doesn't sound too appealing. Thanks, JJ.

The cdv is something totally different. To make the car start without pressing the clutch is easy. Its a few wires twisted here and there the CDV is something different. Search around or cheack here. http://www.zeckhausen.com/cdv.htm

Thanks again for the information. The jolt between first and second caused by the CDV was driving me crazy.

I'm no gearhead but it turns out there's a shop in town that's approved for warranty work that will remove the CDV, bypass the clutch/starter kill and put on the clutch stop for less than $175. JJ.
