Hi,

I live in the UK and have been offered a 2005 (05 plate) 530d SE Auto with around 150,000 miles on the clock for ?6,500 it has the following options (that I know of):
Xenon Headlights
Adaptive Headlights
Professional Navigation System
Bluetooth telephone

I'm totally new to BMW's and don't really know how the high miles hit the residuals. Does this appear a fair price, and what could the problems be with this mileage.

Many Thanks
All things considered, that's a good deal. You want to get it inspected--maybe under the radar, so as not to offend. Still, like someone mentioned, he's basically "giving" it to you since you're a family member. At that price, you could afford to make some significant repairs, if needed, and still come out on top. Worst case, you buy it and rack up some expenses, decide to sell, and flip it for ?11-12K. My 2 cents.

It's usually good to check www.mobile.de for price comparisons. 6.500 GBP is suspiciously low price

Latho,

At that price it's a steal.
I don't need another car, but if you don't have it, I will at that money, even though the Wife will kill me - she had a sense of humour failure when I bought another car last month (for ?500!!). Still, live dangerously eh??

Buy it.

Mike

Thats a good price but bear in mind that spare parts and dealer repairs for BMWs are not at all cheap once the warranty has expired. A member recently paid in excess of ?1600 to have a cable replaced to cure a starting problem. See the servicing section

Yeah, but ?5-6k under trade gives you a bit of slush to cope with any 'expensive' repairs...

The Proper MG colour description is "Bronze Yellow", but if you look at the car, then at Baby-Poo, then it's very similar!! Bronze Yellow paint was only applied to 3 of the V8's, thankfully. It is a very 1970's colour, and although MGB's should either be Red or Green, I wouldn't change it now - I've had the "old Lady" since 1978 - and it was a "Poo" colour then - but I bought it for the engine, not the looks. Or the interior. Or the handling. Or the fuel consumption. Or the high insurance. Or the road noise. Or the lights. Or the gearbox. Or the image (flat caps and string back gloves). But I love that V8 sound, and the looks on peoples face when they get passed by what looks like a boring MGB (but with 180-odd bhp!).

I tell you what though, it is a culture shock to get into it after driving a modern car - even a non-BMW one. Lorry sized steering wheel. Two feet to operate the brake, two feet and both hands to operate the clutch. Wind noise that is deafening even when the car is stationary. Doors that make a noise when you close them. A water temperature gauge even!!! And oil pressure. THREE switches on the dashboard. Give it a diesel prod on the loud pedal and all you get is wheelspin and axle tramp. Brakes are OK though - the back brake drums are bigger than the BMW discs!! Mind you, the car probably weighs as much as one and a half E60's.

I love my 530, but the MG delivers more smiles per mile, even though you have to work hard for it. I wouldn't think twice about 500 mile days in the 530, I wouldn't consider it now in the MG - if only because I'd have to fill it up three times (a 10 gallon tank!!)

Man, you've gotta wait until June? I'd knock him down a few quid!
