2004 E60 545i N62 Grease Oil under flywheel housing
Please see photos of grease and oil stain looking towards the transmission from under the engine. Some of it appears to be coming from the black plastic cover. Can any one tell me what is behind the cover and where this leak could be coming from please?

Could be rear main oil seal.
If you have a manual transmission, could be leaking dual mass flywheel. See this thread: https://5series.net/forums/e60-discu...e-gunk-136947/

ZF Auto Box
Hi TWH thanks for response. I have just changed the Oil pan etc on the ZF box and that's when I noticed the above. As the pictures show it is only just starting to weep.

Well, it could also be transmission fluid (really just gear oil) from the ZF box. Maybe from the sleeve?

I have just replaced the sleeve - I guess you mean the mechatronics connection with o-rings. So may be I need to keep an eye on it. You wouldn't know what that black plastic cover is covering would you?
