2004 E60 525i brake help.
I hope I am posting in the correct section and if I am not I apologize. I will keep this short, simple and specific regarding the assistance I need.
So my service light came on which kind of confused me and then I got the message that my brake pads are at the minimum depth, no problem because now I know and we all know that the front brakes take 90% of the abuse. So with my last $100 I purchased new pads, a new brake sensor, anti-squeal compound and rotor a set of 'rotor hold down bolts' and a 8mm Hex key for said bolts.
Also this will be my first BMW brake job so it would be greatly appreciated if I could find a local E60 owner on the west side of Houston (I am at Hwy6 and Westheimer) who can help out and has a floor jack, it would be greatly appreciated.
Just PM me or email me at texasmr2@sbcglobal or call me at 281-796-3016 if you can help,
Gregg

LOL.
The only item I purchased from the BMW dealership were the rotor hold down bolts and I purchased four so I will have new ones for the rear brakes. Everything else I purchased from the O'Reilly in front of my neighborhood. I never purchase basic maintenance parts from a dealership and pay their absurd markup prices just because their name is on the box.
1. Front ceramic brake pads w/shims - $55.99
List at $94.90
2. Two packages of anti-squeal - $2.78
List at $1.39 each
3. Front brake pad sensor $20.99
List at $35.58
4. Four brake rotor hold down bolts - $5.20
5. One bottle of Lucas fuel system cleaner - $5.99
6. Hex key set - $2.99
7. Total tax for everything was $7.75
For a grand total of $101.69
The reason I need the help is because I cannot locate my tools (mother is a bit of a hoarder) nor do I have a floor jack any more.
Thanks.

Depending on the rotor wear, you may need new rotors also. BMW's typically go either one or two pad sets on the original rotor until the rotor is below minimum thickness. I've never had one go three pad sets on the same rotor.
You should also replace the pad springs. I replace every time...I've seen someplace official (BMW or ATE as I recall) that you can go two sets before replacing.
I also replace the guide pin boots every time, but that is probably overkill.
When was the last time the brake fluid was changed? Every two years is probably overkill, but never is inviting for an expensive system repair.
