Default 2004 - 545i Active Steering Inactive.

I disconnected the battery and when I put back the battery and start the car, the steering has no power and it is rather stiff I might say. Then I turned the wheel all the way to left and to right and put back to center while the engine is in idle. Still I have this warning saying Active Steering need to be reset. Please tell what I should do.Thank you.

Make sure your battery is strong. When I changed out my old battery in '04 545i with a new one, there was nothing special I needed to do to get the systems working again. Only thing was the clock, I think. If the battery is strong, a simple shut-off and re-start should fix any warnings or systems. In particular, I did not have to do any steering wheel lock to lock to reset the active steering.

Have you checked the power steering fluid level?

With the battery being fully charged, Start the car turn the steering wheel from center to full lest then full right to center. That is how you rest the steering. If no function- find a DR.

You do know that you posted a video of the roll over system (ARS) initialization and the poster is talking about AFS. Even though AFS, ARS and DSC are all combined, this doesn't seem to be the case. ANYTIME you disconnect battery you're going to get AFS errors.

OP - Just let the car sleep and then wakeup. It will reset itself. Unless there is something you left out of the story

Initially i thought he was having an issue where the ARS needed a reset. Updated since this was a simple reset apparently.

You can't. You need BMW tools to do that. Other than that it's very easy once you have them.

I browse websites and the feedback are too much. Every diagnostic systems seems to be working except Autologic is way too expensive for me to invest. Could you please tell me which touch screen diagnostic system I should buy or to consider. Thank you again.
